Frequently Asked Questions

Winter 2020-2021

Skiers and riders share many things: a love of the slopes, the feeling of freedom when cruising down runs and making memories with family and friends on a beautiful winter day. We are all part of an outdoor community, and that’s what makes Crystal Mountain special.

Winter may look a little different this year, and that’s OK. We’ll all be outside, enjoying snow and fresh air, and looking for that perfect run. We are excited to see you all soon, and we can’t wait to open the slopes!

The Crystal Mountain team has been working toward re-opening for this winter since we ended operations last March. Crystal Clean was developed as our commitment to safety and health, but has become part of our culture throughout the summer. We are strengthening that commitment to you now by continuing to plan for all contingencies and reimagining the Crystal Mountain experience for your safety, for your health and for your enjoyment.

We have developed our winter operations plan using ski industry best practices and state and local health recommendations. If you have questions that aren't addressed below, we welcome you to contact us.

Season Pass Divider

I have purchased a season pass for this winter. Will I be guaranteed access to the mountain?

Yes, season passes will be honored and be able to access the mountain.

I am planning on buying a daily lift ticket. Will I be guaranteed access to the mountain on my lift ticket dates?

The only guaranteed access to the slopes are our Season passholders, Four Seasons Club members with Premium Snowsports and Ultimate plans and guests who have pre-purchased lift tickets in advance. Single-day lift tickets must be purchased in advance of your visit. Do not wait to walk up as tickets may not be available.

Will lift ticket sales be limited this winter?

Crystal Mountain may be limiting capacity on the mountain to ensure safety protocols such as physical distancing can be maintained. Based on this capacity, there is a possibility lift tickets will be limited and taken off sale for certain dates. Purchase lift tickets in advance to ensure your access to the mountain. Do not wait until the day you come skiing and do not walk up to buy a lift ticket as they may not be available.

Can I buy tickets in person at ticketing windows?

If the resort is under capacity for the day, day-of tickets will be available. However, there is the possibility that lift tickets will be sold out. Purchase lift tickets in advance to ensure your access to the mountain.

How does the new RFID ticketing and gates work?

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) will replace our metal wickets and sticky paper tickets. Now you'll be able to purchase lift tickets online and receive an RFID card that allows you to reload lift tickets or season passes onto that same card via your mobile phone or computer.

You place the credit card-sized pass in your jacket and go directly to the chairlift where the RFID chip will be automatically scanned at a gate and allow you to load onto the chairlift.

Do I get access to the slopes if I stay in Crystal Mountain lodging?

Guests who have booked their lodging through Crystal Mountain will be guaranteed the ability to purchase a lift ticket during their lodging dates.

Are you limiting capacity at the resort?

It is not our intention to limit access to the mountain. However, we may need to take some measures to maintain a safe and responsible experience for our guests by managing volume. We will continue assessing the number of guests we can accommodate. We hope that by monitoring the number of tickets sold, we will avoid implementing a reservation system during the season.

If we need to address volume, there may be a limit on how many day-of tickets can access the mountain during specific days of the season. Availability of lift tickets on desired dates may be restricted for both online and window lift tickets sales. Please note that lift ticket sales may be restricted at any time, so we highly recommend securing your winter lift access as early as possible, or buying a Season Pass.

Will all the lifts be running?

All of our chairlifts are scheduled to operate this winter as weather conditions and health safety guidelines permit.

If you live together, ride together. Please do not ride with people not in your party, and even alone if you are skiing alone.

Will you be limiting chairlift capacity?

We will not be enforcing maximum capacity on chairlifts, and will allow groups traveling together to ride on their own chair when operationally feasible. CDC-approved masks or face coverings are required in all lift lines, on the chairlifts and while exiting the chairlifts.

Mazes and lift queues will be set up to facilitate physical distancing. CDC-approved masks will be mandatory in lines and while riding lifts.

How do I reserve rental equipment?

Please reserve all rental equipment at least 48 hours in advance. We cannot guarantee late requests for rentals.

Are you disinfecting rentals between uses?

Yes, all of our gear will be disinfected between uses.

Will lockers be available this winter?

We have very limited seasonal lockers available, and those have already been rented for the season.

Lesson Divider

I have purchased a season pass for this winter. Will I be guaranteed access to the mountain?

We’re excited you are taking a lesson to learn to ski or snowboard, or sharpen your skills. Please call us at 888-968-7686 ext. 2000 at least 48 hours in advance to make a lesson reservation. An online waiver and payment is required at the time of reservation. All lessons will check in at the Mountain Adventure Zone.

What kind of safety precautions are you taking with Snowsports lessons?

CDC-approved face masks are required by all participants and staff during the duration of the lesson.  Lesson times and capacities have been restricted.  Private lessons are encouraged and group lessons will be limited to five students per Instructor. Children aged six and under are required to take a private lesson and must be accompanied by a family assistant to help the instructor with picking up the child, riding the lift and restroom breaks. Lesson breaks will be limited and facilitated in open air tents only.  Lesson participants will not be served lunch and will remain outdoors. New programming including Family Lessons has been added to accommodate groups from the same household.

Will Totem Park have limited capacity?

Yes. Totem Park will be open on a limited capacity. The best way to use the learning area is to book a lesson. A Totem Park lift ticket is required inside the learning center.

Cleaning Divider

accommodations and cleaning

What is your resort cleaning process? How are you addressing COVID-19 and sanitation efforts?

In its heightened and enhanced cleaning protocols, Crystal Mountain will be using the highest classification of disinfectants recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to treat known pathogens like COVID-19.

In guest rooms, Crystal Mountain has enhanced its detailed cleaning practices, requiring surfaces to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. While stay-over room cleaning has been suspended at this time, cleanings between guest stays will see an enhanced cleaning protocol, with extra caution taken for high-touch points like television remote controls, door handles, light switches, chairs, faucets, lamps and others. Rooms will be taken out of service between guests to ensure proper sanitization.

In public spaces, Crystal Mountain has added to its already rigorous cleaning protocols, requiring surfaces to be treated with disinfectants. This this cleaning will be done with increased frequency. If you see a bathroom closed, come back! It is likely closed for routine and thorough cleaning. We have added touchless hand sanitizers throughout the resort, at entrances and exits to our buildings.

How often will my room be cleaned?

Your room has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before you check in. Housekeeping service has been suspended so no one will enter your room once you check in. Please call the hotel operator at 888-968-7686 ext. 0 or dial 0 from your room phone if you need anything.

Will social distancing be implemented?

Please stay at least six feet away from others when you are inside and outside. Wear your CDC-approved mask or face coverings outside in areas where you likely will not be able to socially or physically distance from those around you. You should expect crowds in the lift lines, on chairlifts and when you exit the lifts; in ticket lines; at ski racks; in food service areas; inside all our buildings; on shuttle buses; in retail shops. You must wear a mask in in any area – inside and out – where a lot of people tend to congregate.

To help remind you of the risk of COVID-19 transmission through person-to-person contact, Crystal Mountain has installed signage throughout the property to remind guests to maintain at least six-feet social distancing and will remove and re-arrange furniture to allow more space for distancing. Signs will also queue guests in areas like the front desk and at cash registers.

Crystal Mountain has added partitions at front desks and cash registers to provide an extra level of precaution for its staff members and guests. You’ll see more touchless hand sanitizing stations around Crystal Mountain near entrances and exits, front desks, elevator banks and meeting spaces. But it’s always best to stand at least six feet from others, and wear a mask when social distancing is just not achievable.

Guests must wear a mask in any area outside where a lot of people tend to congregate.

Please stay six feet away from others and wash your hands frequently.

When in doubt: “Mask on. Wash up. Spread out. Be kind.”
